Language resources
Learning Korean
There are two places I know of in London to learn Korean
- SOAS. General information on their Korean courses, together with a link to TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) can be found here. The courses for the Autumn 2006 season are set out here.
Details on tailored courses are here.
- The Korean Cultural Centre. These classes started in June 2008 and were heavily over-subscribed (because they are free, apart from a contribution to the course books).
There’s a Korean language meetup club in London: here.
Books
For those who want to try to learn on their own, probably the best source of self-tuition materials are available at Grant & Cutler, 55-57 Great Marlborough Street, W1F 7AY.
Other resources
- Over at iKATV they have a collection of teach-yourself videos from Arirang TV. Worth a look.
- Check out Saharial’s Korea cafe bulletin board – which gets more material as she gets further advanced in her language studies
- Useful list of English phrases translated into Korean at lingo24.com
- On-line translation using Google and Altavista at lingo24.com. Lingo can also provide people to do more heavy-duty translation for you.
- Online tool for writing in Hangul

Ive been studying like no one’s business for this exam. Even though im only going for the beginners its still proving a real challenge… also doesnt help that they ahve changed the format this year with 6 levels having been condensed into 3. The listening wasnt as bad as i would have expected to be honest. Im still not looking forward to it though lol.
Have two days of intensive studying left anyhow.
The exam was very hard. Grammar and verb conjugation particularly hard. by the end i was at my wits end lol still the pass grades are fairly lenient so ive heard.
The attendees comprised of very few foreigners interestingly, mainly young korean gyopos who now live in the uk.
We provide Korean translation services.
