Music reviewer wanted

One of my constant gripes with the organisation of Korean events is that people don’t talk to each other. So it should come as no surprise that in the Korean drumming extravaganza next week there is a diary conflict: the SamulNori event at the Purcell Room clashes with the first day of SOAS’s drumming evening classes. So, do I go along and hear the experts doing it and then join the evening class on the second day? Or do I make sure I don’t miss out on some crucial technique or piece of information, and skip the Purcell Room gig?

I’ve taken the view that probably there will be more drumming concerts in the future (indeed, the evening classes culminate in a concert - I guess that’s the way to secure your higher education funding), but who knows when there will next be a chance to have a go at learning to do it yourself? So I’ll be going to the evening classes.

Which means that I won’t be reviewing Monday’s concert for this site. Does anyone out there want to volunteer? No experience necessary: as most of you will have gathered, I’m pretty clueless about the subjects I cover. Do let me know.

And in general, if anyone out there wants to contribute to this blog, do please get in touch. I’m particularly keen to get some help on K-pop.
