Update on the UK–Korea relationship

BKS logoA talk by H.E Charles Hay, British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and H.E Michael Gifford, British Ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Charles Hay became UK Ambassador to the Republic of Korea in February 2015. During his time in the Diplomatic Service he has worked in Embassies in the Czech Republic, Spain and at the UK Representation to the EU in Brussels. Most recently Charles was the Director of Consular Services in London, responsible for assisting British Nationals and crisis management worldwide. Before becoming Ambassador to Korea, Charles spent a year learning Korean in London and Seoul, including a home stay with a Korean family in Busan. He is accompanied by his wife Pascale and their two children.

Michael Gifford joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1981 and has had a variety of postings in Europe and the Middle East. Before taking up his job as Ambassador in Pyongyang in October 2012 he was responsible for strategic property asset management of the FCO’s global estate. He served as British Ambassador to Yemen from 2004 to 2007; before that he was Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo. He has also served in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo and Abu Dhabi. He is accompanied in the DPRK by his wife Patricia.

There will be a Question & Answer session followed by networking over a Korean buffet with wine.
