Rent-a-loo
20-Oct-07
The Korean Toilet Association makes it into the news again.
If you're looking for an innovative public-hygiene-themed mini-break in Korea you could do worse than rent a toilet-shaped house for the night. All proceeds will go to support that splendid and worthwhile organisation.
HT to Jim Hoare.

We all knew Korea had some world-beating industries: ships, chips, LCD screens. Add to that the manufacture of condoms, where three Korean companies - Unidus, Dongkuk Trading and Hankook Latex - account for 30% of the global market, according to the Chosun. Maybe there's a big domestic demand - for example for high school field trips - but presumbaly like most Korean manufactures the majority of production is destined for the export market.
According to the Chosun article there's currently an international condom expert convention in Jeju Island - the favorite honeymoon location for newlyweds - at which size and strength will be under discussion.
Update, 24 June 2008. Over at the Korea Times, a photo of a publicity stunt advertising the ...
Banish your Monday blues
03-Sep-07
Two little items to brighten your Monday.
First, if ever you thought the TV in your particular country wash trashy, just be thankful they haven't plumbed the depths of "Racing Model Billiard Championship".
"This is a sport I really would like to see catch on," comments the Party Pooper. "Some geniuses over at the Xports channel have rounded up the hottest racing models, put them in their usual skimpy outfits and got them bending over pool tables in a billiards tournament. As for how well the girls play pool, let's just say the quality varies."
Check out the video on the site linked above. Anything to give us a break from Big Brother. There's also a fine gallery here, with some samples ...
Cosmetic surgery to get tax breaks
25-Feb-07
As if there wasn't enough plastic surgery in Korea already, the Government has just made it tax deductible. According to the Chosun:
The costs of plastic surgery, cosmetic tooth reshaping, corrective laser eye surgery, and "boyak", or traditional Korean health supplements, will be eligible for income deductions in the year-end tax adjustment from this year. Costs incurred last December and this January will be retroactively eligible. The government passed a revision of the enforcement ordinance for the income tax law, including the new items, in a cabinet meeting Tuesday (20 Feb 07).
