It's a while since I did a round-up of celebrity news, which means that I've almost forgotten all the things I was going to mention, and lost most of the links that I was going to use. So before things get completely out of hand, here's one of my not-so-regular posts shamelessly plundering the celebrity blogs.
1 Bada
After my recent post defending Bada against the assaults of Popseoul I exchanged a few emails with the Popseoulites. They don't have an issue with her singing ability, just her sense of style. I'm coming round to their way of thinking, based on one of their more recent posts.
A weird vision. And the singing ability? Well, I've now listened to Made ...
Uhm Jung-hwa #9: Prestige
06-Feb-07
(2006)
Stern(4,g)
After all the high jinks required to get this album off the ground, my expectations of the music to be enjoyed therein were low. They were triumphantly met.
There's nothing terribly objectionable about anything on this album, but then there's nothing terribly arresting either. The thing which most sticks in the mind that is that the composer of the second song seems to have got hold of a gizmo which simulates the noise of a spaceship's missiles from the 1970s (80s?) arcade game Defender, and is determined to make full use of it. Even more irritating than the tinkly thing which R&B composers overuse so much.
Rather like Baek Ji-young's latest, it has taken several listen-throughs to think of anything to say ...
New! Celebrity BlogWatch
28-Jan-07
Knowing that many of you visit my site looking for celebrity coverage, and knowing that I don't really satisfy your needs, I've been thinking about what to do about that.
Also, I know that there'is a lot of English-language blogs out there which cover Asian celebrities, and it is almost a full-time job looking through them all.
Enter the world of RSS feed aggregation, and a wonderful little gizmo produced by the folks over at the Oz Politics Blog (and yes, despite the cricket, a Pom can still harbour warm feelings towards an Aussie). And thanks to these technologies I bring to you Celebrity BlogWatchTM. The latest headlines from all those blogs, on one page. See what's hot. See which bloggers lead ...
Celebrity news round-up
08-Dec-06
I haven't posted about any celebs recently, so here's the latest clips I've come across:
1 Singers turned actors
With an eye on the success of canto-pop stars on the big screen, K-pop stars and their managers have been looking to maximise brand value and revenue streams. Uhm Jung-hwa, I only recently noticed, has been prominent both as a singer and an actor for many years, while you have to have been living a fairly secluded life recently if you hadn't heard of Rain's part in Park Chan-wook's latest. So the Chosun decided to do a quick poll of the best and the worst acting talent among the former singers.
Top of the list for the boys (above) is, surprise, surprise, Rain. "He ...
The versatile Uhm Jung-hwa (엄정화)
18-Oct-06
A rather silly item in the Chosun (entitled Singer's Hotpants Inflame Cyberspace) has alerted me to an actress that I hadn't really focused on before. She's been in films that I've seen and vaguely registered as quite interesting, or films that I've missed and am eager to see.
I haven't heard her sing, and so can't comment on whether the hot pants are a diversionary tactic. But she's been going as a singer (first album released in 1993) for about as long as she's been in the acting business (first film released in 1992).
The films she has appeared in, according to imdb, are as follows (in reverse order):
My Piano (2006) - for which, if you believe the Chosun, she managed to ...
