Dae Jang Geum musical needs translator
08-Aug-07
From this week's Seoul Selection newsletter
Seoul Selection is looking for translators to translate the libretto of the musical "Dae Jang Geum" produced by PMC Production. The translation --- approximately 30 pages (A4) --- needs to be done rather quickly, with the deadline for the translation being Aug 18. You should have plenty of time next week if you'd like to handle the entire translation on your own. If time is an issue, we'd be more than happy to put more than one translator on the project. If you're interested, send a resume and a translation sample (click here for the sample text --- translate only the text in bold) to publisher at seoulselection dot com no later than Thursday ...

We are looking to employ 2 Korean students for 1 month starting on July 16th to work at our operations centre in Galway, Ireland. The person(s) need to be a fluent Korean speaker(s) with a good IT ability. The role would require the person to test a software application that has been translated into Korean to ensure that it is linguistically correct and logical. I have detailed some questions and answers you may have on the requirement:
Q1. What is the software that the 2 Korean testers are testing? Please give us more information like the platform of the software (Windows, Unix, LINUX, Mac), functionality, target users, industry etc
The software is a product made by a company called Avocent. It ...
Be part of an award-winning one-woman show on the Edinburgh Fringe. Just received via the BAKS list:
I am looking for a female Korean speaker to record a few lines of text this Friday, July 6 at LAMDA in Barons Court. The text will be used as a voiceover in a theatre show called The Mother's Bones, winner of a Manchester Evening News Award in 2006. I am taking the show to Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
As an artist I do not have large funds at my disposal, but I can reimburse travel and pay a small honorarium. Please see my website below for credentials. If you can help or know of anyone who can, I would greatly appreciate it if you ...
Translator wanted
02-Jul-07
A translator is wanted to translate an academic paper from Korean into English - 25 pages including around 30 pictures. Please email me using the contact form if you are interested. Compensation by mutual agreement.
Update 16 July 2007: No more applications please. Thank you to those who have expressed an interest in this. The person commissioning the translation is now, I believe, in touch with all three of you to take this forward.

Model needed for global media campaign
14-Jun-07
This could be your chance to get your face into the newspapers and magazines all over the world.
I received an interesting email today from a producer looking to put together a still photoshoot for an advert for Barclays Bank. She's seeking a particular "look". I was just about to post the email verbatim when I got a bit paranoid about age, sex and racial discrimination. I thought you weren't allowed to specify age, sex or race in a job advert any more. But I guess there must be some sort of exemptions in the film and acting world otherwise you'd end up with all sorts of unusual couplings. Imagine Hur Jin-ho pitching the following idea to his money-men: Han Suk-kyu, ...

Korean film subtitler wanted
12-Jan-07
Have you ever thought how bad some of the subtitles are on your average Korean film? Of course you have. Particularly those cheap Hong Kong versions.
I know things are gradually getting better, for example when Darcy gets on the case in Seoul, but there are also vacancies for subtitlers in London. Here's a request I got through the other day, and I hope there are lots of responses. I'm assuming that the work will be for region 2 releases by Tartan and others, but I'm speculating here. Even better if the job is going to be focusing on directors' commentaries.
If you get the job, let me know. And keep us all informed of subtitling projects in progress!
Due to recent expansion, ...

Korean language trainers wanted
11-Oct-06
Let's see if we can repeat the success of the previous job posting for a language trainer:

Workload is provisionally 15 hours a week for a course which will last around 36 weeks. They're looking for experienced teachers, but contact them direct for the full low-down.
