Lim Hyung-joo, Korean popera star comes to London

Lim Hyung-jooThanks to the watchful eyes of Kay, I discovered just in time for yesterday’s “what’s on” post that the Korean Residents Society have invited the youthful popera star Lim Hyung-joo to appear at St John’s Smith Square next week.

The programme includes some classical lollipops plus one or two of the songs which have made him famous, including The Salley Gardens, title of one of his albums. Some Korean songs round out the programme.

You can get a flavour of Lim’s style at YouTube below:

Nice-sounding voice, light and clear. And here’s The Salley Gardens:

I wonder whether it’s poor breath control or simply not understanding the words that leads him to breathe in the middle of phrases – or a bit of both. Hopefully nothing that a bit more coaching wouldn’t remedy. Looks like he could have a bright future ahead.
