Discover the secrets of Korean beauty at Selfridges

Kim Seong-won, Dior's Korean make-up commandoAnd no, this is not a post about plastic surgery.

At an event organised by Christian Dior, a team of their best international make-up artists (called their beauty commando force) will be showing off their talents at Selfridges, Oxford Street, from 28 June to 4 July. Part of the hit squad is Seong Won Kim (pictured right).

Here’s the attractive pitch:

Dior’s professional make-up artist team use their Backstage Makeup expertise to help women become catwalk fabulous: achieving your beauty dreams, destination aspiration. From pared-down chic to show-stopping glamour, five highly skilled members of the international Pro Makeup Team will solve your beauty problems and share with you their secrets from around the world.

And here’s the deal. You ring the Dior counter at Selfridges (tel 0800 1234 000 x 12734). You book a one-hour session with Mr Kim and it costs you £25. And the £25 is redeemable against the purchase of any products from Dior’s fine range. Think of it this way: you want to treat yourself to some Dior products – you’d be buying them anyway, wouldn’t you? This way, you get a free makeover too.

If Seong-won’s booked up at the time you want him, you could always book a slot with one of Dior’s other beauty commandos: Jamie Coombes (UK), Junior Cedeño (Spain), Davide Frizzi (Italy), Yasuhiro Tokunaga (Japan). But as you’re an LKL reader, you’ll make sure you get in with Seong-won Kim first. Something about him:

Nothing predestined the elegant Seong to work in beauty, but he “always wanted to do something out of the ordinary.” Since makeup was unpopular in conservative Korea when he finished his studies, it was the obvious choice. He attended makeup school in Seoul and began working with models and actresses, and his talent attracted the attention of Dior. “I wouldn’t have agreed to work exclusively for one brand if I hadn’t been sure it was the best. When Dior called me, I didn’t hesitate. Dior is the world’s most creative brand. It unites imagination, innovation and dynamism. The Dior woman is sexy, sensual and romantic all at once.”

His secret weapons are HydrAction Deep Hydration Sorbet Crème — Normal and Combination Skin (£24.50), HydrAction Mist Spray (£18.50), Diorskin Pure Light Sheer Skin-Lightening Makeup (£22.50), 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Compact (£33.00), and Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect Light-Reflecting Lipgloss (£15.50).

I’d go along myself, but I think I’d need more than an hour.
