Dae Jang Geum musical needs translator

Dae Jang Geum Musical

From this week’s Seoul Selection newsletter

Seoul Selection is looking for translators to translate the libretto of the musical “Dae Jang Geum” produced by PMC Production. The translation — approximately 30 pages (A4) — needs to be done rather quickly, with the deadline for the translation being Aug 18. You should have plenty of time next week if you’d like to handle the entire translation on your own. If time is an issue, we’d be more than happy to put more than one translator on the project. If you’re interested, send a resume and a translation sample (click here for the sample text — translate only the text in bold) to publisher at seoulselection dot com no later than Thursday — time is limited, we need a day to go through the applications and decide how many people to stick on the project. If you’d like more information on the project, including information about pay, send your inquiries to publisher at seoulselection dot com.

Whether this means the musical is being translated into English for an overseas tour, or whether they simply want a translation for the benefit of foreign visitors in Seoul, I don’t know. But isn’t it par for the course that it’s always a last minute request? Click Korea reports that “The show will hit the road for Southeast Asia in 2008, and perhaps head to shores further afield later” – so there’s plenty of time if they’re preparing for that.
