The Korean Film Festival roadshow

KCCUK logoThis year the Korean Film Festival is not just showing in London. Selected highlights will also be showing in Warwick and Oxford.

In addition, Park Chan-wook will be seeing some of the sights of Middle England, as he will be accompanying the tour, giving a talk on I’m a Cyborg at both locations.

The festival comes to the Warwick Art Centre, 9-11 November, where the running order also includes a talk by Korean film expert Julian Stringer:

11am | Film Talk with Julian Stringer

South Korean cinema has recently risen to global prominence as the latest ‘new cinema’ to attract the attention of international audiences. This illustrated talk by Julian Stringer (University of Nottingham) explains how this success came about and details the most important characteristics of New Korean Cinema. It also places these developments in historical context, tracing the emergence of celebrated contemporary directors such as Im Kwon-taek, Kim Ki-duk, and Park Chan-wook in light of the South Korean film industry’s varied fortunes across the post-war period.

In Oxford, the venue is the Odeon Cinema, George Street, OX1 2BL, and the screenings are 12-14 November. Here the screenings are free, but it’s first come first served, with tickets available 30 minutes before the screening. Keep checking the festival’s official site for confirmation of the afternoon talk at St Anthony’s, provisionally scheduled for 4pm on Tuesday 13th.

The Festival website is up and running, and sports the first public appearance of the Korean Cultural Centre’s branding.
