London Koreans in demand in Italy

from the Telegraph Magazine, 5 January 2008Two separate exhibitions at opposite ends of Italy have featured the work of London-based Koreans.

Ori chair by Jackie Choi LondonIn the Milan Furniture Fair last week, Jackie Choi London was exhibiting in the Salone Satellite, 22-27 April. The Salone Satellite is designed to showcase the work of young designers under the age of 35.

The Choi sisters, Jackie and Lloyd, were identified by the Daily Telegraph as one of the up and coming designers to watch. The Milan exhibition featured their new “Ori” chair (above left).

Lecce's contemporary art museumFrancesca Cho: Gold TreeMeanwhile in heel of Italy’s boot, Francesca Cho is one of thirty artists from sixteen countries chosen to participate in an exhibition entitled “Transiti Nomadi” (‘Nomadic Transitions’) in the Museo Civico di Arte Contemporanea di San Cesario di Lecce. Lecce, famous for its baroque architecture, is sometimes known as the Florence of the South, or as the city of 100 churches.

The theme of the exhibition is inspired by one of the characteristics of the surrounding Salento region of Italy, which has always been a cultural melting pot. Cho’s Gold Tree (2006 – above right) was selected for the exhibition.
