May Events 2010

Here are the events that I know about for May. Apologies for the poor presentation of this post, and probably a greater number of omissions than usual: a snail’s pace netbook, poor internet connection (yes, even in Seoul) and limited free time are conspiring against me at the moment.

Featured event

• Chang-rae Lee, author of A Gesture Life and Native Speaker, talks about his new novel, The Surrendered, at the Asia House Festival of Asian Literature, on 24 May

Exhibitions

• Buddha Speaks with a New Voice continues at the KCC until 29 May. Watch out for associated events, including a lecture by Park Young-sook on “Tradition and Innovation of Korean Buddhist Sculpture” on 19 May.
• Koh Sang-woo’s solo show at Sesame commences on 6 May
• I-MYU have a double exhibition at the moment (in Seoul and in their London gallery space) entitled Double Interview

Film

• Antique will be screening at the Terracotta Far East film festival on 8 May
• The KCC’s film screenings will continue, the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Check their website for details.

Live music

• Younee’s second UK tour is coming to an end. Check out her MySpace page for any last minute gigs
• Ye Eun Lee is giving a cello recital at St James’s Piccadilly on 12 May, 1pm
• Trio Con Brio Copenhagen (two-thirds Korean) play the Newbury Festival on 19 May
• The Tate Piano Trio (including Sulki Yu on violin) play in Oxford on 23 May.

Talks and other events

• The first of SOAS’s Friday evening seminars for the summer term is on 14 May at 5pm.
• There’s a Taste of Asia event near Tower Bridge (Potters Fields Park, Tooley Street, SE1 2HZ) 29 – 31 May. Not sure what it’s all about (I just remember seeing an advert for it somewhere) but there should be some Korean representation in it.
