Here are the events I’m aware of for August.

Featured event

Festivals

  • The annual Kingston Korean Festival is at the Fairfield Recreation Ground on 14 August, 11am-5pm or thereabouts.
  • At the Edinburgh fringe,
    • the amazing Modl Theatre Company returns with The Dandelion’s Story 15-30 August,
    • Ariul: made in Korea presents a programme of fusion music, 22-29 August,
    • Bibimbap Theatre presents Princess Pyunggang and General Ondal, a musical rendition of a children’s folk-tale,
    • and young musicians from Korea and the UK combine in the Edinburgh Fringe International Community Youth Orchestra and Choir on August 20.

Performance

  • Sadlers Wells in Islington hosts a big Korean musical, Another Sun, based on the Dangun myth (and with some hints at things more contemporary) on 27-28 August. Admission free via [email protected]
  • Modl Theatre Company (see under Festivals above) also performs The Dandelion’s Story in Cardiff on 7 August and Abergavenny on 11 August

Film

  • This month is Jang Sun-woo month at the KCC. The Petal screens on 5 August, with Road to the Racetrack on 12 August.
  • Bong Joon-ho‘s Mother comes to the ICA from 20 August.
