Dhayoung Yoon was born in South Korea in 1989. She first started playing the piano at the age of 6 with Myungsook Ko at the Yein Institute of Music. 2 years later she gave her first public performance at the Kumho Art Centre in Seoul which was followed by other public appearances such as one organised by North Seoul Piano Institute Association For Young Artists.

At the age of 11, she began to learn privately with Moonkyung Lee of Kyungwon University. In 2000 she was one of the finalists at the Nowoen piano competition, and in the following year she won the third prize at the same competition.

In 2002, she came to England to study at the Purcell School of Music where she received scholarships throughout the entire course of her study. She studied with Ilana Davids for five years. During the course of studying at Purcell school, she gave more than 30 performances both internal and external. Some of these include performances at Jaques Samuel Hall as well as those for fundraising. She was invited to play at masterclasses with leading pianists including Professors Hamish Milne, Mark Ray, Niel Immelman and Ronald Smith. Her composition was played by the London Symphonietta at the Royal Academy of Music and she also worked with John Rutter in the later part of her school years.

In 2005 she was one of the six finalists at the Purcell school concerto competition where she played Saint-Saëns’ piano concerto in G minor.

After studying at the Purcell School she came to Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she was offered a scholarship to study and is currently learning with Professor Peter Bithell. In May 2009 she won the third prize in the Concerto section and first prize in the Recital Section of the North London Music Festival.
