Joo Yeon Sir tackles Delius

It’s very seldom that one comes across a young Korean musician attempting the English repertoire. Kyung-wha Chung showed the way, over 30 years ago, with her Walton interpretations, but I can’t think of notable examples since. So let’s welcome 20-year old Korean violinist Joo Yeon Sir, winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society Emily Anderson Prize Award 2007 and of a Royal College of Music Concerto competition. Here’s the programme for tomorrow’s lunchtime concert at the RCM:

This concert opens by throwing the spotlight on a winner of the RCM Concerto Competition. Joo Yeon Sir performs the entrancing Violin Concerto by Delius. This work is followed by an orchestral interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet with the central Love Scene that Berlioz himself declared to be the finest piece he ever wrote.
