2011 is the Year of the Rabbit and to welcome the New Year the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCC UK) invites you to explore Korea’s traditional customs at our Centre throughout February. These fun events will introduce ‘The Great Full Moon Festival’, which recalls national unity as well as planning for a successful year. We look forward to sharing Korea’s traditional culture through a full programme of film screenings, concerts, traditional arts and crafts and games.

A regular feature at the KCCUK is our Film Nights and the screenings for February include two Period Dramas, namely: Portrait of a Beauty (Cert.18: Thurs. 10.02) and Forbidden Quest (Cert. 18: Thurs. 24.02). Prior to the screenings, there will also be an opportunity to try on a Hanbok and taste traditional rice cakes (Tteok) in reception. The KCCUK will also stage the following performances, a Korean traditional music concert – Tori Ensemble (Mon 07.02) and a traditional Music and Dance Evening – A Celebration of the First Full Moon (Fri.18.02,).

The movie Portrait of Beauty features a real-life character Shin Yun-bok who is more famous by his pen-name Hyewon. To celebrate this famous Joseon Master, the KCCUK Library will become a studio to draw your own Hyewon pieces. There is also information to discover and paint your Zodiac Animal as well as partake in traditional Korean games in reception or to make a wish on our Wishing Tree.

Additionally for the whole month of February, all visitors to the KCCUK may try traditional green tea whilst listening to the melodic sounds of traditional music. The KCCUK looks forward to welcoming visitors and providing opportunities to discover traditional culture through these uniquely Korean events.
