Korean Culture Report – the podcast you’ve been waiting for

Here’s something that deserves your attention.

The latest podcast to arrive in the K-blogosphere is focused without being too brief, and informative and discursive without outstaying its welcome: The Korean Culture Report is run by the Korean Modern Literature in Translation blogmeister Charles Montgomery, with partners in crime Paul “Ajosshi” Matthews – often to be found on the fringes of theatrical productions (particularly Oh Tae Seok’s Mokhwa Repertory Company, where among other things he’s their English subtitler) – and Andy St Louis from Seoul Art Fiend. Their inaugural podcast released 15 April has fun with the so-bad-it’s-good collection of short stories by Ahn Dong-Min entitled Will of Nostradams (sic); muses over the high-profile exhibition of Korean contemporary art currently showing at the Leeum (already at the top of LKL’s must-see attractions in Seoul, and it’s nice to have one’s prejudices confirmed) and discusses the Bukcheong Lion Dance.

The test of any good review programme is that it makes you want to sample the works reviewed. This is no exception – even the questionable collection of short stories will now merit an impulse-buy if I happen to see it in the bookshops.

We look forward to many more podcasts from this source.
