The Nomad Artist in a Transnational Era:
Korean Contemporary Art on British Soil.

Ever since the early 1960s when the term ‘globalization’ was coined there have been stormy discussions especially since the early 1990s. By now, the word has come to sound rather banal and its meaning has become as cliché. It is thus necessary to look back over those arguments in order to make it relevant again, in new and particular ways, to the current situation of globalised world. It is because it is still complex and contradictory to us that we seek or ask questions such as the following: what does national identity actually mean in this era of globalization?, or more specifically, how do we see an exhibition conceived of and realized under the banner of a named national identity in this transnational epoch?, And why do we continue to try delineating a cultural identity in and for art on the basis of its nationality when nationalism in art practice is radically challenged?

About those issues and the other crucial topics that are relevant to the theme, ‘The Nomad Artist in a Transnational Era,’ it would be great if we could discuss with you at the Korean Art Open Talk.

Thank you.
