A couple of years ago the BBC was speculating that Deptford, a neglected corner of South-East London next to Greenwich, was becoming the new Paris: ancient churches, markets, pavement cafes and the Laban Dance Centre combine to create a cultural zone that’s well worth a visit, while the Deptford Dame and Deptford is… blogs provide the local news.
Recently there have been some new cafes opening, one of which is Deli X (156 Deptford High Street, SE8 3PQ), run by a Korean adoptee. To mark the opening, London-based Korean artist Franesca Cho is eXhibiting a series of paintings which for the past few years have been on loan to the Korean Air VIP lounge at Heathrow Airport. They, as well as a number of new paintings, are now on show and for sale. Pop round and take a look. The interior of the deli is casual, bohemian and slightly funky. Plenty of room to lounge around with friends and have some of Sonia’s excellent coffee, cakes and quiche.
Francesca Cho’s paintings will be on display 3 October – 12 November. Opening hours Monday – Friday 8am – 7pm, Saturday 10am – 3pm.
