Serenade – A letter to the other side follows on from the successful classical evening Serenade – Songs to stir your soul earlier this year at the same venue.

The series returns with a fascinating variety of classical, pop and rock crossover music featuring Joseph Suk Lim (Baritone), Sukjin Chang (Composer), Hyejoon Ahn (Flautist) and a very special guest, Mark Llewelyn Evans, with his debut album Let The light In. (Album of the week on BBC Radio Wales.)

Artists info

Joseph Suk Lim (Baritone)

A Korean born Australian baritone who first started violin at the age of 8. At the age of 14 he started to play bass guitar and since then he has been in various rock bands and was featured in many newspapers, media and festivals. In 2007, Suk commenced his classical voice training with Anthony Roden at London College of Music and won many prizes including Andrew Lloyd Webber prize and John Ireland prize. He is also the event organizer for concert series Serenade.

SukJin Chang (Composer)

He has two classical music composition Master degrees and one film music composition Master at Korea National University of Arts, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and London College of Music & Media. SukJin has collaborated in many of British film scores, of which many have been selected by London Film Festival and many awards. SukJin, also has been participated in Korean Drama Series called Queen SUNDUK 2009 broadcasted from MBC in Seoul, South Korea. As a composer and an artist, SukJin wrote 2 Symphonic Modern Classical Works, released Piano Solo Album (Morn&Eve, 2008) and is preparing Triphop Album next year. At present, SukJin is finishing up his PhD thesis studying about hidden structural view of Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu for PhD composition at Surrey University.

HyeJoon Ahn (Flautist)

She completed the Orchestral Studies course at the Toho Orchestral Academy in Japan as a full scholarship recipient from 2008 to 2010. She graduated from Yonsei University in 2007 with her bachelor's degrees in flute as a scholarship recipient. Her principal teachers include Shiaro Akira(principal of New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra), Kanda Hiroaki (Principal of NHK symphony Orchestra), Atsushi Ichinohe (principal of Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra), Nobutaka Shimizu(principla of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra), Uikyung Park and Hyeran Park. She also studied chamber music with Joji Hattori, Eunjung Choi and Kun chul Kim.

During 2003 to 2009 HyeJoon was a first chair flautist and a guest principal flautist at Seoul Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra with conductor Tae Young Park. She is now studying her Master's degrees at Royal Academy of Music in London.

Guest Singer: Mark Llewelyn Evans

Originally from Carmarthen in West Wales, Mark studied at the Guldhall School of Music & Drama and The National Opera Studio in London. After completing his studies, Mark immediately began working for most of the UK opera companies singing title roles such as Don Giovanni. Mark has a busy singing career working with the likes of Alfie Boe, OperaBabes, Shan Cothi, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and brother Wynne Evans (Gio Compario). In November 2010, Mark was commissioned by Carnival Cruises to take his acclaimed one-man show aboard their luxury liners alongside showbiz celebrities such as Christopher Biggins and Jimmy Tarbuck. Last year Mark was chosen by director Guy Ritchie to take a part in the new Sherlock Holmes movie sequel alongside Robert Downey Nnr, Jude Law, Stephen Fry and Rachel McAdams. Filming wrapped earlier this year and the film is set for UK release in cinemas in December 2011. Recently, Mark is delighted with the release of his debut solo album Let the Light in.
