MBC K-pop gig sells out within a couple of hours

I’m pleasantly surprised that, despite all the negative vibes about MBC and the absence of a really big name in the line-up, the K-pop bash at the indigO2 seems to have sold out within a couple of hours.

The off-on gig, originally pencilled in for the Jubilee weekend, is now scheduled for 23 June, but you’ll need to chance your luck on eBay to get tickets.

MBC, who recently enraged people with their shoddy four-minute piece on Koreans having relationships with foreigners, are aiming to please UK K-pop fans with Cube Entertainment act 4Minute, who came to the Brixton Academy last year, plus SM Entertainment’s latest boy band EXO K, who look promising, and Loen Entertainment’s quirky duo Norazo. Gugak fusion band Queen complete the musical line-up and there will also be a hanbok fashion parade featuring designs by Park Sul-Nyeo.

The Korean Class Massive have been bloggin hard on this one. Visit their posts which introduce the K-pop acts and the non K-pop elements. As an aside, they’ve also done an in-depth piece on the shoddy MBC documentary which is well worth a read.

The ticket prices, at £15, are much more affordable than the United Cube concert last year, which in part explains the speed of ticket sales at the 2,410 capacity venue. Hopefully the enthusiastic response will encourage nervous promoters that the UK is ready for a really big K-pop act.
