Happy New Year to all LKL’s readers.
2012 was a hectic year, and many of us are still recovering. Some of the details of this month’s events are sketchy at the time of writing, but watch out for things commemorating the 5th anniversary of the opening of the KCC, at the end of this month. Film nights will be down to the more manageable two per month rather than the hectic weekly pace we had last year, and they will be actor-themed rather than director-themed. There are some big names lined up, but the screening schedules have yet to be announced. In the meanwhile, here’s what we know about thus far:
Film
- Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry screens on Film 4, 8 January
- Jeong-One Park’s documentary Kung Fu Grandma will be showing at the London Short Film Festival, 12 January
- Kim Ji-woon’s Hollywood film The Last Stand gets its UK premiere in Leicester Square on 22 January. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be there.
Exhibitions
- The group show by young Korean artists, Now X Here, continues at the KCC until 23 January
- Lee Jinhan’s solo show I eat I vomit continues at Hada Contemporary until 31 January
Music
- Sunwook Kim plays in Frant, near Tunbridge Wells, on 25 January
- Joyce Yang makes her UK debut in the Cambridge International Piano Series on 30 January
Classes and seminars
- A Korean marketing conference – Bridging Europe and Asia in Marketing and Management Theory and Practice – is at Birkbeck, 4 January
- The first SOAS seminars of the new term are Korean Cannibalism on 18 January and Korean Police Prepare for War, 1946-1950 on 25 January.
- Kiejo Sarsfield’s cookery classes re-start with sessions on 19 and 26 January
- John Everard launches Only Beautiful Please at Asia House, 24 January
