July Events 2013

Here are the events for July that I know of so far. I’m expecting that the exhibition at Asia House entitled A Soldier’s Tale could be the highlight of the month.

As you may have noticed, I can’t keep up with the number of Korean Language Meetups and K-pop parties, so I have dropped those from this list. Let me know what I’ve missed.

Talks

  • There’s a range of talks and events linked to the Moon Jar exhibition at the KCC:
    • The Pots that gave me joy, Bernard Leach’s personal collection (1 July)
    • Children’s Clay workshop: The Jar of Stories (13 July)
    • Treasures of Korean Ceramics in the National Museum of Korea (15 July)
    • Joining Hemispheres, Bridging History and the Contemporary (22 July)
    • Storytelling sessions: Folktales about the moon (29 July)
  • Antonia Mochan introduces her Kimchi Project at the Greenwich Tavern on 1 July
  • There’s a talk on The Korean War and the UK-Korea Diplomatic Relations in Defence at the KCC on 3 July

Competitions

  • The Quiz on Korea is on 6 July (entry now closed)
  • The Cookery competition is on 20 July (apply by 11 July)

Exhibitions

Film

  • The first Korea-UK Dream Film Festival takes place on 1 July at the Cinema Museum
  • The KCC’s Women on Screen season continues with Yeongja’s Heydays (Kim Ho-sun, 1975) on 4 July and Suddenly in the Dark of Night (Go Yeong-nam, 1981) on 18 July
  • The KCC’s Year of the Four Actors moves on to Choi Min-sik. Screenings for 11 and 25 July are not yet announced.

  1. Hi there, I believe that there is a Korean Food Festival happening in New Malden on the 13th of July, in the garden of The Fountain pub.

I’ve only just found your website but it’s a shame you’ve decided to drop the language and kpop meetups from your list since that’s how I came across it, but I understand that it’s difficult to keep up with them so no worries, thanks for the great work already, it’s very helpful to a budding K-phile! 🙂

    1. Thanks for the info about the Food Fest Arthur. Yes, it’s usually around this time of year, but it’s always difficult getting details. A date for the diary next month is the big Korean Festival all day at the Fairfield Recreation Ground in Kingston.
