The London Korean Novel Club

Many LKL followers will have already heard of the London Korean Novel Club – not to be confused with the monthly Korean Literature Night meetups at the KCC.

The London Korean Novel Club was born in part because the KCC-organised literature nights seemed to get booked up so quickly: there’s obviously a market for informal gatherings to discuss Korean literature in translation, something that would have been inconceivable a couple of years ago.

You can find details of the Club on its Facebook page. But here are details of its meetings for the rest of the year. The group had its first meeting this month, focusing on Bae Suah’s Highway with Green Apples.

Books

The Book Club is now looking at the second Saturday of every month.

We have also gone ahead and selected a list of the books we are looking to read. So it gives you time in advance to read them.

Please note I have represented the author’s name with their first name first, and surname last. Any questions, do let us know!

2nd Meet 12th July: I’ll be Right there – Shin Kyung-Sook
3rd Meet 9th August: Our Happy Time – Gong Ji-Young
4th Meet 13th Sept: The Naked Tree – Park Wan-Suh
5th Meet 11th Oct Tongue – Jo Kyung-ran
6th Meet 15th November Book – TBC
7th Meet 13th January 2015 – Book – TBC

The venue is likely to be the Korean Cultural Centre, but will be confirmed closer to the time. It might also be nice to meet in a Korean restaurant occasionally. I am not sure how much discussing we can do in between chewing delicious pork belly, but it would be a lovely way to celebrate literature.

The gathering is organised by Diya Mitra of Diya on Korea.
