Cash or Smash

For the weekend of 14th 15th March 2015 I will occupy MOKSPACE to perform a special promotion.

During the weekend I will progressively smash the entire production of my hand-made ‘Cornflake’ works (approximately one every two minutes.)

I will however offer the audience of passing shoppers and invited friends, colleagues and art lovers the opportunity to either rescue and preserve one of this unique and numbered artworks by buying it for just 99p – or to pay their 99p to simply watch it being smashed anyway.

This artwork/event echoes previous well-known artworks by David Hammons, Michael Landy, Claes Oldenburg and On Kawara – among others.

It subtly critiques consumerism and the way in which overproduction can create a wasteful economic system.

The appearance of the window, gallery and performance will be vivid and festive, and accompanied by pronouncements like of those of a street trader, attracting attention and promoting business.

Visitors will also be able to see documentation and a history of the Cornflake project in its various manifestations, which goes back to 2006.
