KWK Performance: The Stem, the Bud, the Bloom and the Seed, 4-5 Aug

This is the KWK performance we’re looking forward to most of all. We’re big admirers of musician / composter / conductor Won Il from his work with Puri, Baramgot, and the National Orchestra of Korea, and our 2013 interview with him can be found here.

He is coming over to Kingston two weeks early to work with choreographer Jason Piper and create this new collaborative piece.

Won Il

This collaboration between Won Il, Korean composer and musician, and choreographer and dancer, Jason Piper, head of dance at Kingston University, has been devised by the director, Philip Parr. It is based upon a short poem by John Elsom, which runs like a theme throughout the KWK Festival.

“From the stem, the bud,
From the bud, the bloom,
From the bloom, the seed,
From the seed, the stem.”

The KWK Festival is the bloom. What comes from it is the seed and the stems are the futures of Kingston, Korea and the friendships between us.
