K-music rising stars – recitals at the KCC

Running alongside the K-music festival is a series of three performances in the KCCUK featuring young UK-based Korean musicians.

Admission is free, but booking is essential. To reserve your place, RSVP to [email protected] or 020 7004 2600 with your details (name, contact details and number of tickets required).

All performances are at 7pm at the KCCUK.

Rising Stars 1 – Monday 14th September 2015

Yoon-seok Shin / Piano

Yoon Seok Shin - pianoBorn in South Korea in 1987, Yoon-Seok began the piano at the age of 6. In 1999 he came to live in the United Kingdom continuing his studies with Andrew Zolinsky at the Junior Royal College of Music, London until 2005. During this time, he was a regular member at the yearly music festival hosted by the Old Freemen’s Society where he was invited to perform on special occasions notably the 150th anniversary of Freemen’s Society at Guildhall in the presence of the Lord Mayor of London.

Minhee Cho / Flute Feat. Kumi Matsuo (Piano)

Minhee ChoCurrently studying flute at Royal Academy of Music. Before the Royal Academy of Music she studied at the Royal College of Music after transferring from Ewha Women’s University in 2009. She has also studied under Trevor Wye, one of the most prominent flautists in the world.

Rising Stars 2 – Friday 25th September 2015

Sohyun Park / Piano

Sohyun ParkFor the last 6 years she has been studying at the Royal College of Music. For her Bachelor of Music (Honours) with scholarship, she studied with Ruth Nye and Master of Music in Performance with Gordon Fergus-Thompson receiving a Distinction. During those six years she has been involved in many activities within college such as duo, chamber music, accompanying, entering competitions, lunchtime concerts, many master classes and projects such as collaborating with violinist Jooyeon Sir in the Beethoven violin sonata concert series and performing for patients in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Messiaen l’oiseaux exotique piano festival.

Catherine Lee / Cello Feat. Yaoying Wang (Piano)

Catherine LeeCatherine has performed in many leadingvenues including Wigmore Hall, St. James’s Piccadilly, St.Martin-in-the-Fields, the Royal Opera House and the South Bank Centre. She regularly participates and performs in international music festivals and summer academies such as the Courchevel Summer Academy, the European Music Academy Bonn, Naples International Chamber Music Festival, the Russian Music Festival, the Thuringen Summer Academy, Bruges Academy and the Lenk Summer Academy.

Rising Stars 3 – Monday 28th September 2015

Minjung Baek / Piano

Minjung BaekMinjung Baek is the winner of national competitions in Korea (more than 50 times) and several international piano competitions in the USA, Italy, France and the UK. Since her debut in Seoul at the age of 8, she has been giving concerts all over the world. A graduate as a full scholarship recipient of Seoul Arts High School, Mannes College of Music in NYC(BM), the world famous Accademia Pianistica di Imola (Artist Diploma), and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London (Master of Performance with Distinction and Artist Diploma).

Marisol Lee / Violin

Marisol LeeViolinist Marisol Lee completed her BMus at the Hochschule Fur Musik und Theatre in Munich. In 2012, she was awarded scholarships to enter the Royal Academy of Music as an MA student, graduating in 2014. She was also chosen as the scholarship student in Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben foundation in Hamburgh, and received a Stradivari from Cremona, 1703, for three years. She has played as a soloist with numerous international orchestras, including the Beethoven Society Orchestra, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Philharmonie BadenBaden, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (Belgium), Beijing Symphony Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
