Event news: Sunwook Kim plays Mozart, Schubert & Beethoven at the Wigmore

Notice of an upcoming Wigmore recital. Fresh from a tour of Asia, Sunwook Kim performed Tchaikovsky 1 three times with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra last week in their tour of South and West England, and returns to the capital to give a recital of Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert.

His recent album of works by Brahms and Franck was praised for its ‘emotional resonance’ and ‘pristine clarity’ (Gramophone), and showed his erudite approach to programming. Not one to shy away from more established repertory, however, January 2017 will see his next solo disc feature Beethoven’s most well-known and challenging sonatas — Pathétique, Moonlight, and Appassionata — released on Accentus.

His latest Wigmore Hall recital programme recalls the extraordinary creative energy that swept through Vienna from the time of Mozart’s arrival in the Habsburg imperial capital in the early 1780s to Schubert’s death in November 1728.

  1. He played the Schubert piece recently at a local venue here in Gyeonggi-do, and the Hammerklavier (of course) during his epic 2-year haul through the Beethoven cycle at LG Arts Centre a while ago. This recital should be a treat.
