Morten Traavik, the man who brought us a North Korean accordion quintet covering a Norwegian synthpop track, now gives us a documentary about a Slovenian art-rock band performing versions of songs from The Sound of Music in North Korea. Read a review of the “documentary musical” Liberation Day in the Guardian.

More info on Morten Traavik’s website and www.liberationday.film.

The documentary had its international premiere at IDFA (the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam) this month; on 19 Nov it was in a double bill with a performance by the Slovenian band in question, Laibach.

  1. Some clips from the show. I find the surtitles impressive – Seoul venues don’t provide them for pop concerts.
