The folding plug makes it on to the high street

Seen in Maplins Canary Wharf branch yestserday:

Folding plug

The electrical and gadget retailer is stocking the folding plug designed by Choi Min-kyu. Fantastic news that the product has made it onto the high street. We first noticed the idea back in 2009, and saw the next iteration in 2013. Looking at the elegant USB chargers I did ponder: it has taken a while to bring this genius design to market, and in the meanwhile clunkier manufacturers have brought out what we really need when we’re on holiday: a gizmo that will charge at least two USB devices (your phone and your iPad) simultaneously. The desirable, slimline plugs on display at Maplins will only charge one device at a time.

But checking the manufacturer’s website it seems to be that’s the designer’s next priority. There’s a twin charger for a UK socket already available; an international traveller’s version can’t be far behind. That’s what I’ll hopefully be taking with me next time I head for the airport.
