Exhibitions
- The Liverpool Biennial opens on 14 July. Haegue Yang is showing at the Tate (and gives an artist talk on the opening day) while Suki Seokyeong Kang is at Bluecoat.
- Lee Bul’s big show at the Hayward Gallery continues into August. There’s an in-depth look at the exhibition and her work on 28 July.
- The KCC’s exhibition featuring Jheon Soocheon closes on 17 July.
- In Birmingham, the Korean artist collective Mixrice is featured at Eastside Projects in an exhibition entitled Migrating Flavours, until 21 July.
- In York, Jukhee Kwon’s book and paper sculpture is in the running for the Aesthetica Art Prize at York Art Gallery
- In Durham, the photography exhibition entitled The Trees are High continues at the Oriental Museum until early September
- An exhibition of North Korean posters takes place in Croydon on 7 July
- Lee Ufan’s installation Relatum – Stage is outside the Serpentine Gallery until the end of the month.
- In Edinburgh, the Scottish Gallery hosts an exhibition of Korean crafts entitled The Korean Connection, 4 – 28 July.
Performance and festivals
- Joo Yeon Sir (violin) plays Bruch at St John’s Smith Square on 1 July
- She is also artist in residence at the Lichfield festival, playing Paganini and demonstrating antique instruments, 8 – 12 July
- The Eastbourne Korean Festival is at the town hall on 7 July, featuring Korean and Western music and a Korean buffet
- The UK round of the World K-pop Festival is on 7 July in Great Portland Street
- The KCC’s House Concert on 24 July features Hyungi Lee (percussion)
- Gray, Loco, Woo Won Jae and DJ Pumkin are in town, 21 July
- Cho Seong-jin plays Chopin in Oxford on 29 July
Film
- The next LKFF Teaser Screening is Hong Sang-soo’s Claire’s Camera, 23 July in London and 30 July in Cambridge
- The Deptford Cinema is running a season of classic K-film from the Noughties: Oldboy, Save the Green Planet, Tale of Two Sisters and more.
- The KCC’s next season of film screenings is on the theme of Rebels with a Cause, starting with Bungee Jumping of their own (19 July) and Kim Ki-young’s The Sea Knows (26 July)
Everything else
- The Korean Literature Night on 25 July will be discussing Kim Young-ha’s I Hear Your Voice
- There’s a K-pop party in Vauxhall on 6 July
- There’s a Sushi night with Young Joo Shin in Christchurch, Dorset on 24 July
- For Korean speakers, there’s something going on at University of Surrey, 27-29 July
- Look out for a big billboard honouring Super Junior, which will be unveiled opposite Selfridges, Oxford Street on 30 July, for two weeks only.
