Shin Yong-il: Into the Void, at Han Collection

Shin Yong-il’s work, brought by Gallery Do, was for me the highlight of the Korean artists at last year’s London Art Fair, so I’ll definitely be looking in at Han Collection to spend more time in its company:

Poster: Into the Void

Han Collection invites you into artist, Shin Yong-il’s world of self-cultivation and enlightenment through a two-pronged approach, utilising both soil and writings from the Jikji; these combined form art that is both full of multiple layers of depth and allows the viewer a place to wander through both visually and mentally, in order to explore their own enlightenment and their own thoughts on language, art and the link with nature and the earth.

Jikji is the Korean name as an abbreviation of the full title of the “Anthology of Great Buddhist Priests’ Zen Teachings” (Full translated name), Buddhist book, consisting of 2 volumes, of which only a part of the last volume survives. This book was printed during the Goryeo Dynasty in 1377, it is the world’s oldest extant book printed with movable metal type.
