North Korea - Natural Beauty-1-5x3

Highlighting the talent and culture of Chosun (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, aka North Korea), this exhibition presents a rarely seen collection of paintings accumulated by the Song family, avid promoters of peace in the Korean Peninsula. Their collection consists of more than 100 works, focusing on Chosunhwa, a traditional North Korean art technique using ink and by highly respected artists from DPRK.

Organised and curated by Teresa Song and her father, Paul Song, the exhibition seeks to foster a new engagement with the culture of the DPRK, bringing to light the wealth of talent and diversity in the country‘s scene through a non-political lens. The show comprises of over 50 paintings from a handpicked selection of artists from their collection, all of whom have earned accolades both in their native country and on an international platform.

With this exhibition, the Song family hopes to attract a new audience for and interest in the artistic and cultural landscape of the DPRK. Through continued investment in regional arts and in the planning of events, they aim to achieve their long-term goal of bridging the gap between Europe and the DPRK.
