Haegee Lee and David Junghoon Kim

Soprano Haegee Lee and tenor David Junghoon Kim, with pianist David Gowland, will be giving a lunchtime recital on Monday 15 April 2019, 1pm in the Crush Room, Royal Opera House, Bow Street, London, WC2E 9DD. Tickets are available from the Royal Opera House website.

The event lasts around 45 minutes and ends at approximately 1.45pm.

South Korean soprano Haegee Lee joins the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme from the start of the 2017/18 Season. In the 2017/18 Season her roles included Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and Frasquita (Carmen). In the 2018/19 Season she returns to sing Frasquita, Sandman (Hansel and Gretel) and Xenia (Boris Godunov).

Lee trained at Seoul National University and the Conservatoire National de Région Pierre Barbizet, Marseille, and now studies with Isabelle Vernet. Awards include first prize in the Concours de Bach, Marseilles, and second prize in the first Korean Classical Singers Association International Vocal Competition, Seoul.

Engagements include Christine (The Phantom of the Opera) and performances in concert and recital across Europe, including the premiere of Chanson de Geisha at the Henri Tomasi Conference, ‘Hymnes à Maria’ in Marseille, for L’Europe de la Culture du Bel Canto à Giacomo Puccini and with Une heure ensemble in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Korean tenor David Junghoon Kim was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme 2015–17, singing roles including Ballad Seller (Il tabarro), Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Ruiz (Il trovatore), Flavio (Norma), Nathanaël (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Lamplighter (Manon Lescaut), Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier), Gastone de Letorières (La traviata), Augustin Moser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Count of Lerma (Don Carlo) and Pong (Turandot). In the 2017/18 Season he returns to sing Macduff (Macbeth) and Leone de Casaldi (L’Ange de Nisida).

Kim studied at the Seoul National University. His professional engagements include Rodolfo (La bohème) in Seoul and an Independence Commemoration Concert with Myung-Whun Chung at Sejong Art Centre and, more recently, Alfredo Germont (La traviata) for Cologne Opera and Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) for Grange Park Opera.

Competition successes include first prize in the Voci Verdiane competition in Busseto, third prize in the International Singing Competition in Seoul, first prize and the Plácido Domingo Prize in the Francisco Viñas competition in Barcelona, reaching the semi-final in the Concours de Reine Elizabeth in Brussels, Prince Rainier III Voice Master Prize in the Concours Monte-Carlo and first prize and Audience Prize in the Toulouse International Singing Competition.
