Programme

Mendelssohn Piano Trio No.2 in C minor

Performers:

Trio Mazzolini is a London-based piano trio made up of violinist Jack Greed, cellist Yurie Lee, and pianist Harry Rylance. Shortly after their formation in 2019, they were awarded a Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music – a position they will retain for the 2021/22 academic year. They have also recently been selected as one of the two ensembles for this year’s Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme.

Within three weeks of their formation, the trio travelled to Toronto, Canada to give performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and at the Toronto Royal Conservatory. During their visit they also made their radio debut on CBC Radio with a live performance of the Weinberg Piano Trio at the Glenn Gould Studio.

Trio Mazzolini enjoys performing music from all genres, but their greatest passion as an ensemble is to work with contemporary composers and musicians to create exciting new music. As part of their Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music this past year, they worked in collaboration with several composers such as Philip Cashian, Augusta Read Thomas, and Ryan Wigglesworth. They also recorded six new piano trios written by composition students from the Academy. Upcoming collaborations include working with the composers in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme to commission new works throughout the year, culminating in a performance at Aldeburgh Festival 2022. Recent engagements include recitals at Lichfield Festival, Petworth Festival and the North York Moors Chamber Music Festival. In the coming year they are scheduled to perform at Folkestone Festival, Lichfield Festival, and will also embark on a week-long tour in the Netherlands which ends with a concert at Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw.

As well as benefiting from tuition with Joanna MacGregor, Joshua Fisher, and Nadège Rochat, they have also received coaching from Adrian Brendel, Sung-Won Yang, David Greed, Werner Herbers, and Jonathan Freeman-Attwood. As Fellows, they coach various ensembles within the Academy and run informal platforms as an opportunity for groups to give performances whilst receiving feedback from Trio Mazzolini. Away from RAM, they have worked closely with the John Lyon Secondary School to give lunchtime concerts, masterclasses and to adjudicate internal competitions.
