
For those keen to lock down their diary commitments well in advance, the Barbican has just announced its September 2025 – July 2026 classical music season. For Seong-jin Cho fans, you have four opportunities to see him – including two performances of Chopin’s 2nd piano concerto – in what is billed as an Artist Portrait. In one of the most interesting (and perhaps challenging) concerts of the whole season, Cho premieres Donghoon Shin’s new piano concerto; earlier in the season he tackles Prokofiev’s second. Yeol Eum Son pairs Bartok’s 3rd Concerto with Gerald Finzi’s lovely little Eclogue for piano and strings; and violinist Clara-Jumi Kang plays Shostakovich’s first concerto. Dates as follows:
