Event news: Unsuk Chin’s Clarinet Concerto to receive UK premiere

Unsuk Chin

Unsuk Chin’s Clarinet Conerto will be getting its UK premiere on 22 October as part of the Philharmonia’s Music of Today series. It is scored for orchestra with a huge percussion session: the publisher’s website lists such instruments as a bell-tree, washboard, wine glass in B-flat, 2 fishing reels and a vibraslap. Kent Nagano, who conducted its world premiere in Göteburg last year, introduces the work in the following video:

The programme includes the following works:

Igor Stravinsky: Fireworks (Feu d’artifice)
Unsuk Chin: Clarinet Concerto (UK premiere)
Richard Wagner: Prelude & Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde
György Ligeti: Atmosphères
Maurice Ravel: Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No.2
