Sun-Mi Hong

Sun-Mi Hong, the South-Korean-born and Amsterdam-based musician, stands as one of the most inventive drummers and composers of her generation, continuously pushing the boundaries of jazz and its intersections with diverse musical traditions. Her new album, entitled Fourth Page: Meaning of a Nest, is the second release on Edition Records following Third Page: Resonance with her quintet, and exemplifies her extraordinary ability to straddle the intricate world of elaborate composition and the expansive realm of improvisation. Scheduled for release in March 2025, this album is a testament to her creative spirit and innovative artistry. This album captures the quintet’s collective experiences and emotions during its creation, delving into themes of melancholy and innocence influenced by Hong’s South-Korean heritage and personal life.

Acclaimed by DownBeat as a “strikingly original composer“; and praised by Jazzwise as “absorbing as it is enigmatic” Sun-Mi Hong continues to redefine the boundaries of jazz with her innovative and evocative artistry.
