Eunhye Jung

Straight from WOW Seoul Book Festival, the internationally-acclaimed pansori singer Eunhye Jung will be coming to Wimbledon BookFest for her only London performance. With pianist Kim Yong-Jae

Eunhye Jung will be performing a new work inspired by Jeanette Winterson’s A Gap in Time in the style of pansori, the ancient Korean art form that weaves storytelling, song and drumming. As Korean literature, food, and music become increasingly part of the cultural mainstream, we are delighted to be bringing this spellbinding art form to London. This very special session which will feature Eunhye’s live performance, alongside a short discussion introducing the work and its adaptation process.

Pansori is Korea’s traditional form of solo musical storytelling—deeply lyrical and emotionally rich. It also embodies the enduring spirit of Korean culture, with modern interpretations continuing to captivate audiences by blending the ancient art with contemporary styles, making it a significant part of the country’s cultural landscape.

Eunhye Jung is a multifaceted artist, primarily producing her creations on piano and through musical composition. Her collaborative projects include The Colliding Beings with pansori master Il-Dong Bae which received accolades as the best album of the year from Sequenza 21 (USA) and JazzSpace (Korea), and the scoring for Ancestry with Munyunggo Jackson, percussionist for Stevie Wonder. Watch part of Eunhye Jung and pianist Kim Yong-Jae’s performance of Dante’s Divine Comedy here.
