Sailor Honeymoon began as a spontaneous collaboration born from all-woman jam sessions hosted by photographer Abi Raymaker (장인화) and former DJ Zaeeun Shin (신재은). Their vision was realised in a shared practice room where their noisy, loose improvisation was charged with chemistry, a small act of rebellion in a country where pop culture encourages artists (and women) to be flawless and pristine. The spontaneity of the project leads Sailor Honeymoon to do things like swapping instruments when jamming and calling female fans onstage at shows, earning them a growing reputation in Seoul’s music scene.
They released their debut EP Sailor Honeymoon in the spring of 2024, a fresh new punk-rock offering that references various sub-genres of punk while pushing back against the global perception of Korean music as K-pop. The 8-track project was tracked live over a week in London by producer Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche, Shura) and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Parquet Courts, Temples).
Sailor Honeymoon has now added a third member to their lineup, bassist Yelim Kim (김예림), and performed across Asia and Europe, with appearances at Korea’s biggest rock festival Pentaport and beloved European festivals like Best Kept Secret and Primavera Sound.
They were also named to the NME 100 Artists to Watch in 2025 and have been supported by international radio stations like BBC6, BBC1, and KEXP.
With their debut album slated for later this year and an exciting lineup of festivals this summer (including their first show in Mongolia), Sailor Honeymoon is looking forward to their most exciting year yet.
