Shiyeon Sung replaces Han-Na Chang in Korea-UK Closing Concert

Shiyeon Sung is jumping in at short notice to conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra in the all-Romantic programme at the Royal Festival Hall this week, as Han-Na Chang is unwell. The concert marks the end of the year-long Korea-UK festival, and features Rossini’s William Tell overture, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the soloist Sunwook Kim, and will be repeated the next day in Canterbury:

“With passion and desire”. That’s what Tchaikovsky wrote on the score of his Fifth Symphony – and he was never one to hold back! Love, despair, sweeping waltzes and triumphant trumpets: this symphony has it all, just as Grieg’s famous Piano Concerto is the ultimate in romance. And for starters, Rossini’s overture to William Tell. No matter how many times you’ve heard it, there’s still no more thrilling way to open a concert.
