XXX is the collaborative duo of bilingual rapper Kim Ximya and producer FRNK, who combine to elevate Korean hip hop by venturing away from traditional song structures and creating a sound all their own.
With the release of their latest double album LANGUAGE and SECOND LANGUAGE, the duo’s insistence on directly opposing Korea’s modern musical formula marks a new avenue for Korean music to expand into the West, with a disjointed sonic landscape sure to appeal to the underground hip hop culture across the Pacific.
Building on the statement of sonic dissonance from mainstream Korean music that XXX made with their debut, the duo channel their anger and discontent with the preconceived formula of Korean pop hits into dense new layers of hip hop and instrumentation.
With their new albums, XXX aims to push the envelope even further as the torchbearers for this new direction of Korean hip-hop.
