A late but very welcome addition to the K-music festival programme for 2024. This should be good.

Seayool playing the piri

A master of the traditional Korean Piri, Seayool’s contemporary classical work Suite for Jeju beautifully expresses Jeju Island’s poignant narrative and beautiful scenery, reinterpreting traditional instruments’ diction while masterfully merging piri and string quartet. SEAYOOL will be joined in this special performance by the Ligeti Quartet to mark this UK premiere.

Through the process of translating contemporary sensations into auditory experiences, Seayool enables audiences a chance to perceive the zeitgeist through music. A composer, music director, and innovative piri (Korean Traditional Bamboo Instrument) performer, Seayool creates sensory compositions that carve out his unique artistic world. His work explores the theme of “how we perceive,” presented in settings ranging from fully improvised to fully scored.

The Ligeti Quartet has been at the forefront of modern and contemporary music since its formation in 2010, breaking new ground through innovative programming and championing of today’s most exciting composers and artists. The Ligeti Quartet has played at landmark venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Curtis Institute, Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Barbican Hall, and Kings Place.
