Cancelling Patji is a play about two sisters whose father was called out at the biggest #MeToo case of the country on their special day of shamanistic ritual to wash off their bad fate.
Mirroring the Korean traditional fairy tale of Kongji and Patji, we see how the guilt transfer to the family members and the stereotypical labeling fall upon their face. Witnessing how the age-old concept of morality, justice and power depicted in folklore continue to function in contemporary society, particularly in the context of cancel culture and public shaming, the play questions how far cancel culture aligns with the ideals of justice, while drawing on the rich history of Korea to provide a unique lens through which to view these global phenomes.
Ultimately, this is the story of two sisters who fight against those stereotypes and stand independently with love and mutual support.
