I’m always grumbling that Sarah Chang never plays anything apart from Bruch which she comes to London. And when she plays something more interesting, there’s often a clash with another compelling Korean cultural event. Earlier this year I couldn’t go to her Shostakovich because E J-yong needed to be interviewed. So I wonder what will clash with her performance of the Barber concerto on 26 October at the Cadogan Hall – a really nice piece. The good news is that the big Im Kwon-taek Q & A is the evening before. So maybe this time I’ll finally get to hear Chang play something interesting.
She’s also playing the same repertoire in Manchester (Bridgewater Hall) on the 23rd, and Edinburgh (Usher Hall) on the 22nd. Also included in the programme is Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Brahms Haydn Variations.
