Event news: K-music 2015 — The Barberettes, 4+5 Sept

Two appearances from The Barberettes will be a really fun highlight of K-music 2015.

K-Music: The Barberettes

Friday 4 September | 8:00PM
Saturday 5 September | 8:00PM
LONDON Forge | 3-7 Delancey St | London NW1 7NL
£15 + Booking fee

The Barberettes

The Barberettes are a spectacular vocal harmony trio, a timeslip girl group who turn classics of the 50s and 60s inside out as well as creating their own theatrical music. Singing doo-wop in Korean and English, they only made their first album last year (in a retro homage to their inspirations, they called it The Barberettes Vol 1) but this year they’ve already stormed SXSW and Midem.

These are their first UK shows, and they have chosen the spectacular setting of The Forge in Camden, a great cabaret space with a clutch of architectural awards and a 20ft-high “living wall” of plants.

  1. And at 23:00 on Friday 4 September 2015 (broadcast as I write this) about 23 minutes into the programme Lopa Kothari @thisislopa says they are wonderful (I’ll correct that later if I’m misquoting her), mentions that they are at The Forge Camden on Saturday (as well as on Friday – I got the impression Lopa Kothari might have seen them there – again I’ll correct that if necessary when I relisten to the programme) and then played their tracks

“Alex Jones and Angellica Bell are joined by actress Suranne Jones. Joe Crowley is live at Hadrian’s Wall to see the biggest Roman invasion of Britain for two thousand years, George McGavin meets a giant flame-throwing spider invading Bristol, and the world’s only South Korean doo-wop group, the Barberettes, perform in the studio.”

Isn’t it fairly impressive to have appeared in a BBC1 Television broadcast at 19:00 on a Friday?
