Finlandia, a rousing musical expression of national identity, sets the scene for Thames Philharmonia’s celebration of the great Finnish composer, Sibelius. Talented young violinist Hee-jin Kwon, a rising star in her home country of South Korea, joins the orchestra as soloist in Sibelius’ hauntingly beautiful violin concerto. The concert will conclude with the composer’s uplifting Fifth Symphony, which progresses from an optimistic opening clarion call to an unforgettable triumphant finale.
