Se So Neon plays the Electric Brixton
SE SO NEON is a South Korean band formed by its front person Hwang Soyoon, consisting of Hwang (vocals/guitar), Park Hyunjin (bass), and a drummer. They have explored their own brand of lo-fi and vintage sound ever since, with a wide spectrum of musical influences varying from blues, psychedelic rock to new wave and synth pop, all together forming an identity specific to SE SO NEON.
Formed in Seoul in 2016, they debuted with single “A Long Dream” in June 2017, and released EP “Summer Plumage” in October the same year. Winning ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Rock Song of the Year’ at the prestigious Korean Music Awards in their debuting year, SE SO NEON instantly became a name to look out for and a leading figure of South Korea’s indie scene. In the following years, the band performed at multiple international festivals in countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, and Taiwan, earning themselves global recognition as well as continuously taking part in domestic gigs and media engagement, building a solid fan base worldwide.
The band’s headlining show ‘2020/NEON’ in 2019 recorded a remarkable success, selling out 2,000 seats within a second of its sales opening. SE SO NEON continued to make a name for themselves in the following year, putting out two more releases; EP “Nonadaptation” and single “NAN CHUN”. “Nonadaptation” was listed in ‘The 35 Best Rock Albums of 2020’ by leading music media Pitchfork and ‘The 40 Best Rock Albums of 2020’ by Paste Magazine. The band was also selected as one of Fender Next artists of 2020, proving themselves to be an industry recognised emerging talent.
In 2021, the band released two more singles, “Jayu” and “joke!”, both receiving rave reviews from music fans and critics alike around the world. SE SO NEON was also the only South Korean musician to be selected as YouTube Music’s global artist development program YouTube Music Foundry, class of 2021. Having successfully completed their first North American tour over March and April in 2022 with over 5,000 tickets sold, SE SO NEON is continuing with their global activities, rigorously and effectively.
