In collaboration with Seoul International Pride Film Festival, this special film showcase explores queer narratives from Korea through screenings and discussions with a director and programmer.
The film programme centres on Kim-Jho Gwangsoo, widely regarded as South Korea’s most prominent queer film director. In 2013, Kim-Jho and his partner, David Kim Seung-hwan, a film distributor and producer, made national headlines when they held South Korea’s first public same-sex wedding ceremony, despite such unions remaining legally unrecognised. The event was highly controversial, and even an act of vandalism in which human faeces were smeared on the wedding stage did not deter the couple from proceeding.
