Many of you will be familiar with the tale of Chunhyang as a pansori performance, and maybe you were introduced to it by Im Kwon-taek’s famous film of the same name. The story has been interpreted in dance by Ahn Eun-me, and Hyun Je-myeong has created a western-style opera out of it. Excerpts from this operatic version will be performed at the KCC on 5 June at 7 pm by the Sol Opera Company, who are just finishing their European tour.
The programme will also include some lollipops from the Western operatic repertoire (Mozart, Donizetti and Puccini) and Choi Young-seob’s Longing for Diamond Mountain.
Cast:
- Kim Kyung-hee (Soprano)
- Jang Ji-hyun (Tenor)
- Cho Hyun-il (Baritone)
- Kim Young-mi (Soprano)
- Lee So-young (Piano)
As ever, pre-registration with the KCC is required for this event.
